Our Troop’s History

With nearly eight decades of continuous Scouting in our history, BSA Troop 171 was first chartered in June of 1944.  Originally chartered in Boiling Springs, we are now chartered by Otterbein United Methodist Church in Carlisle.  Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle are usually part of a rare breed – currently averaging less than 6% of all Scouts.  Boys in Troop 171 attain Eagle if they wish and work for the goal.  And at more than 15% of our Troop membership, the path to Eagle is well-supported. Our Scouts come from the Boiling Springs and Carlisle school districts.
